Spectrum

A mobile app that promotes self-care by helping patients track the effects of prescription or other lifestyle changes.

Quick Facts

Role: UX Designer

Tools: Figma, Marvel

Timeline: April 7th, 2018

Goal: Help patients keep track of side effects like mood swings and depression, as a result of prescription medication.

Process

This project was created for the Society of Women Engineer's first annual hackathon. My team created Spectrum. Spectrum is an interactive prototype for a mobile application that promotes self-care by helping track the side effects of prescription medication or other lifestyle changes. Our prototype won Best in User Experience overall.

Problem Statement

Spectrum was built to address the needs of adults who are prescribed medicines with side effects that include mood swings and depression, including birth control, antidepressants, ADHD medication, and hormone therapy. People with health concerns often trade one problem for a plethora of side effects.

Spectrum helps users keep track of those side effects so that the patient can be aware of how new prescriptions are affecting their body both physically and emotionally, and so that they can share that information effectively with their doctors.

Spectrum is your daily dose of self care that allows you to reflect on your physical and emotional side effects.

Reflection

This was my first time taking part in a hackathon and I really enjoyed it! This experience taught me how to work in an efficient manner with strict time constraints. I only knew one person in my team going into the hackathon so working together with people I had never met before was both a nerve-racking and exciting experience! This showed me how to quickly adapt to new situations and effectively collaborate with new people.
